Classes and Preparations

Only 17 days left until I leave for DC! I'm finishing up all of my preparations - booking my shuttle from the airport to the UC center, figuring out what to pack, finalizing my internship schedule to accommodate my classes/orientations, and shopping for new work clothes.

Earlier this month I was worried about my classes - for a complete list of the classes being offered, check out this link. I'm really excited for my research seminar (international policy), but not so stoked for my elective. I'm currently enrolled in Energy: Powering the Economy in Era of Climate Change/Political Instability. It should be interesting but it's definitely not my top choice, so I'm waitlisted for Lobbying and Advocacy in Washington, which fits my interests a bit more. I was originally signed up for U.S. Foreign Policy, but accidentally dropped it (note to future UCDC participants: there is no helpful "Are you sure you want to drop this course?" screen, so do not click the drop button under any circumstance)... and then I later found out I wouldn't have received credit for the course anyway since I've already taken POL 130, the UC Davis equivalent. So hopefully I'll be able to get into the lobbying class, but if not, then at least the energy one is taught by the Washington Post's energy correspondent!

Other than classes, my other concern is my flight (or rather, my luggage). I only have 25 minutes to change planes, so I'm worried that I'll either miss my flight or I'll make my flight to find out my luggage didn't follow me. To prevent this from being a problem, I'm planning to pack a skirt and blouse in my carry-on (along with any essential items and maps that I can't wait for) to wear to the first day of my internship, considering that my flight lands on Sunday afternoon and my internship's orientation is Monday morning. I hope to out-prepare any travel crisis that arrives - wish me luck!

I'll keep you updated on how the last of my preparations go. I can't wait until I leave!
